Absolutely Bloody Brilliant is how one customer described Star Prototypes rapid prototyping service. So what do we do that is different to others? We respond very quickly to enquiries; we have superb quality; we give expectional customer service in English 24 hours per day; and our prices are very low compared to competitors in developed countries. Using Star Prototype for your rapid prototyping needs is a good business decision.

SLA and SLS rapid prototyping techniques are mainstream in western countries, but in China CNC machining of prototypes is still the most prevalent form of rapid prototyping. The reason for this is that the cost of labour, materials and CNC machinery is very low in China. There are more than 2,000 modelmaking companies in China that do CNC machining of rapid prototypes, but only one is run by a westerner who understands western standards.

Star Prototype is not competitive for raw SL or SLS models: we are nearly the same price as the west. If you need your SL or SLS models finishing to a very high level, then we can be half the price of the west. Our cost of labour is 10% of the west, therefore our finishing costs are negligable compared to the cost of the SL or SLS model. We guarantee to give you a fully finished model for the same price as a raw model in the west. So why is our SL and SLS nearly the same price as the west? Only about 5% of modelmaking in China is done by SL or SLS compared with 65% in the west. The RP machines in China are either locally made and low efficiency, or western made and in poor repair. They are not loaded efficiently because demand is low; the western machines cost more to buy in China than in the west; and the raw materials cost more to buy in China. Before setting up Star Prototype, Gordon Styles ran two rapid prototyping companies in China before Star Prototype and learnt which processes were the best value for money. Star Prototype uses SL as the master pattern making process for making silicone moulds for the vacuum casting process. Star Prototype uses SLS rapid prototype models for very complicated parts that must be made in a single piece.
Star Prototype uses Axson Resins to make vacuum cast prototypes. Click here to see a list of Axson resins available in China. Models can be painted or self coloured, self textured. Typically, vacuum castings are about half the price of suppliers in the west. Gordon Styles has been involved in vacuum casting and rapid prototyping since 1993 when he was owner of STYLES RPD in the UK. Star-Prototype uses China made vacuum casting machines and many of the resins are also made in China: this keeps the cost very low. Star Prototype also has a very different way of making silicone moulds. Because the cost of labour is so low, we can afford to make the silicone mould in two seperate pourings, as opposed to the single pour process generally used in the west. This ensures that our split line is very accurate. It also ensures that we do not get bubble entrapment against the underside of the model during the pouring process.
